Invalid session / username

Fix “Failed to verify username” or “Invalid session”

These messages can occur when a Java server cannot verify your game session. A server may answer status checks while its login checks still fail.

Updated

Refresh the game session and check whether the issue affects one server or several.

Follow these steps

  1. Close the game and refresh sign-in

Fully close Minecraft. In the official Launcher, sign out and sign back in with your Microsoft account, then launch Java Edition again.

  2. Check the selected account

Make sure you are using the account that owns Java Edition. A valid website login or a MineRate account does not provide a Minecraft game license.

  3. Compare with another Java server

If the refreshed session works elsewhere, ask the affected project’s staff to inspect its login or proxy configuration. If several servers fail, check Minecraft service announcements and try again later.

  4. Confirm the project’s login requirements

Some crossplay projects have a different account-linking process. Follow the owner’s documented process for your edition and report the exact message if it fails.

Common questions

Does an online status mean login is working?

No. A public status response does not test Microsoft account authentication or a server’s admission rules.

Can MineRate reset my Minecraft session?

No. Refresh your session in the Launcher. MineRate cannot change Microsoft account access or an external server’s authentication settings.
