How to join a Minecraft Java server

Use this guide for Java Edition on a computer. Before joining, open the server’s MineRate page and check its Java address, supported versions and access requirements.

Updated

You need the Java address and a game version accepted by the server.

Follow these steps

  1. Check the edition and version

Launch Java Edition, then choose a version listed by the server. If it requires a modpack, follow the owner’s installation instructions for that pack.

  2. Copy the connection address

Use the Java IP from the server page. Keep any supplied port, such as play.example.com:25570. Paste the address itself, without https:// or a webpage path.

  3. Add the server in Minecraft

Open Multiplayer → Add Server. Give the entry a name, paste the address into Server Address, then select Done. Direct Connection also works for a one-time visit.

  4. Join and check any message

Select the saved entry and choose Join Server. If Minecraft shows an error, note its exact wording and use the matching guide below.

Common questions

Can I use this address on my phone?

Only if the project also supports Bedrock. Open its Bedrock connection details and use those instead; a Java-only listing is not enough.

Do I need a MineRate account to join?

No. MineRate helps you find and check servers. Minecraft account requirements and any application process are decided by the server.
