Verify server ownership with MOTD or DNS TXT
Ownership verification protects editing and owner integrations. It proves control of the listed endpoint or domain, not the quality or safety of the Minecraft community.
Checked against the MineRate dashboard ·Server ownership and verification of your official website are two different checks with different codes.
Before you start
- Your server selected in the dashboard.
- The verification code displayed in its Confirmation section.
Step-by-step instructions
Choose a method you control
Open Edit server → Confirmation. Copy the complete code. Use MOTD if you manage the public server response, or DNS TXT if you manage the listed host’s DNS.
For MOTD, update the public response
Temporarily include the code as plain text in the MOTD. On a Java proxy network, configure the proxy or plugin that answers the public address, not only a backend. Apply the configuration safely, confirm the returned MOTD and choose Check MOTD.
For DNS, use the exact listed hostname
Create a TXT record for the host recorded in the listing. For play.example.com, use that host, not automatically example.com, a website domain or an SRV target. DNS panels differ in how they ask for the record name; inspect the final full name, allow propagation and choose Check DNS TXT.
Use manual review when necessary
For a draft already linked to your account, Manual check requests an administrator review. A pending manual review is not verified ownership. Keep evidence of endpoint or hosting control ready, but never share passwords, private keys or account recovery codes.
Confirm the result before editing
Wait for Ownership verified before using protected editing and integrations. After a successful check, you can restore the presentation MOTD; changing it before the check completes prevents verification.
If something does not work
- Check MOTD cannot find the code
- Inspect the response from the exact listed endpoint. Avoid formatting codes inside the verification string and check proxy/plugin overrides.
- Check DNS TXT cannot find the code
- Check the full record name, record type and value. A CNAME or SRV record is not a TXT record containing the verification code.
- The website badge is still missing
- In Contacts and integrations, save your official HTTPS website and use its separate website verification code on that website hostname. Server ownership does not automatically verify another domain.
Common questions
Can an IP-only server use DNS TXT?
DNS verification needs control of a hostname. For an IP-only entry, use MOTD or request manual review instead of adding a TXT record to an unrelated domain.
Can I reuse the server code to verify my website?
No. Use the code displayed by the specific check. Website verification checks the saved website hostname and its separate TXT value.
