Minecraft servers on Xbox, PlayStation and Switch

Console versions use Bedrock, but their built-in server list does not offer the same custom-address options as Bedrock on a computer or phone.

Updated

Bedrock support alone does not guarantee a custom server can be joined from a console.

Follow these steps

  1. Check the available connection method

Open Play → Servers to see the servers available on your console. For a custom project, ask its owner whether it publishes console-specific connection instructions.

  2. Check account permissions

Multiplayer must be allowed for your account. If family settings restrict it, the family organizer needs to review the permissions.

  3. Check the platform’s online requirements

Your console may require an active online multiplayer subscription. Check your platform account before treating the problem as a server outage.

  4. Choose an available way to play

A Realm or an invited friend’s world is a different connection method from a custom server IP. For directly adding an arbitrary Bedrock address, use a supported PC or mobile device.

Common questions

Is the missing Add Server button a MineRate error?

No. It is a limitation of the console game interface. MineRate can display an address but cannot add it to Minecraft on your console.

Does a Java & Bedrock label mean console support?

It identifies the server’s supported editions. Ask the owner about your specific console and the connection method it supports.
